AMY WINEHOUSE

Amy WinehouseAmy faces legal action over no-show

Amy Winehouse is facing legal action after pulling out of a concert in Paris hours before she was due to headline it.

The troubled singer failed to show up at the Rock En Seine festival in Paris after she was taken ill at her house in London and was unable to travel to France.

A statement posted on the festival website said organisers had decided to start legal proceedings against her because of the circumstances of her cancellation.

The statement said: "We were told by (Winehouse's) agent at 8pm that she would not be there, and we were forced to cancel the performance. We have still not been given any explanation of the exact reasons for her absence."

Organisers said the singer's musicians had arrived on Thursday and rehearsed the show on Friday morning.

Winehouse had been due to arrive at the venue - the Saint Cloud park just outside Paris - to top a bill that included the Raconteurs, The Streets and Kate Nash.

The statement continued: "We are very sorry about this situation and share the disappointment of the festival-goers."

Winehouse's spokesman declined to comment on the threat of legal action.

He said: "Amy Winehouse is currently at home recovering. The illness is nothing serious, nothing that some time in bed and not singing won't cure."

Her next performance is on September 6 when she is due to headline the Bestival festival on the Isle of Wight. Her spokesman confirmed that she would still be honouring this commitment.

ZUTONS

The ZutonsZutons star denies snubbing Ronson

The Zutons frontman Dave McCabe has denied claims that he snubbed Mark Ronson when they met for the first time.

McCabe was finally given the chance to get to know Ronson at Glastonbury in June. Though Mark had recorded a cover of the band's track 'Valerie' with Amy Winehouse, they had previously had little contact with each other.

"Apparently, I'd come across him once before - but I was drunk so I don't really remember it," Dave told the Daily Star. "The thing is, I think Ronson sometimes says things to make them sound more exciting. He told someone that the first time he tried to speak to me I walked away. That's not true."

Next month The Zutons will release 'What's Your Problem', the second single from their You Can Do Anything album.

McCabe added: "It's one of our favourite tracks on the album but I don't think you'll see Ronson covering it - I think 'Valerie' was a one-off."

Amy WinehouseWinehouse recovering after gig skip

Amy Winehouse is recovering at home after she pulled out of a concert in Paris hours before she was booked to peform.

The troubled singer did not attend the Rock En Seine festival in Paris after she was taken ill at her house in London on Friday night and was unable to travel to France.

Her spokesman said: "Amy Winehouse was regrettably unable to perform at the Rock En Seine show in Paris, Friday August 29, due to illness.

"She was taken ill at her house and wasn't able to travel to France for the concert."

She was due to headline at the three-day festival, where the lineup included the Raconteurs, The Streets and Kate Nash.

A spokesman for the singer said that she did not require hospital treatment and a spokesman for the London Ambulance Service confirmed that they did not attend her address.

The singer was due to fly from London on Friday for the appearance later that night.

Her next commitment is on September 6 when she is due to headline the Bestival festival on the Isle of Wight.

Her spokesman said he had no indication that she would not be well enough to perform next weekend.

Last month Winehouse collapsed at home and had to be taken to hospital after a reaction to medication.

JOHN LEGEND

John LegendLegend 'proud' of protegee Estelle

R+B singer John Legend is thrilled that his protegee Estelle has cracked the US with her hit song American Boy.

The singer was dumped by V2 Records after her first single 1980 failed to make the UK chart's top ten in 2004.

But Estelle was soon noticed by Legend, who promptly signed her to his own Homeschool record label shortly after her departure from V2.

And Legend is delighted that the star has enjoyed so much success with her hit track, which reached number one in the UK and rocketed to number 11 in the US Billboard Hot 100 after its release in March.

He says, "There has been a lot of talk about who is coming over from the UK. I am very, very proud of Estelle. American Boy is the song of the summer.

"I think this album is more sophisticated than her first. The writing, production and her confidence has grown too. Overall she is a better artist."

Mark RonsonMark Ronson added to East Village Radio festival

He'll DJ free festival next week

Mark Ronson has been added to the first East Village Radio Festival, taking place September 6 in New York City.

The festival, which will be hosted by KRS-One will feature performances by Boris, Flying Lotus, High Places, Devin the Dude, Awesome Color, Vivian Girls, Dr. Lonnie Smith, The Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, and Ólöf Arnalds, as well as John Oliver of The Daily Show.

Ronson is a longtime DJ at the station, and continues to fulfill his weekly slot when his schedule allows.

The festival is being staged to celebrate East Village Radio’s fifth anniversary, and will kick off at 1pm at Pier 17 at South Street Seaport.

Also set to take place at the site is visual imagery compiled by Anthology Film Archives, screening works from its collection of avant-garde filmmakers in a space called ‘On-the-Side” @ Seaport’.

The radio station is located on First Avenue in New York, with DJs working their shifts in a small storefront. Owned by the man behind East Village restaurants Lil’ Frankies, Frank, and Supper, the catering at the festival will be provided by sister company Frank Caters who will offer a menu of special grilled items along with other dishes chosen solely for the festival.

A shuttle bus will run from the station to the festival from 12.30pm to 7pm on the day.

Former Beatle Sir Paul McCartney is reportedly set to play a show in Tel Aviv, more than 40 years after The Beatles were banned entry to the country.

McCartney was scheduled to play Tel Aviv earlier this year, but the show was cancelled, and the show is now slated for September 25,

Israel refused to issue entry permits to The Beatles in 1965 after officials decided the lyrical content of their music could corrupt young people there.

Despite reports in the Israeli news of the show, McCartney’s publicist Stuart Bell told the Associated Press that nothing’s yet been officially confirmed.

PINK FLOYD

Pink Floyd Pink Floyd receive 2008 Polar Prize

Pink Floyd were presented with the 2008 Polar Music Prize by Sweden's King Carl XVI Gustaf at a ceremony at the Swedish capitol today (August 26).

The rock legends were honoured with the country's biggest music prize for their contribution to popular music, alongside American soprano Renee Fleming, who also received the award at the Stockholm Concert Hall.

Pink Floyd's Roger Waters and Nick Mason were on hand to receive the award, and said that their band members David Gilmour and Richard Wright were sorry they could not attend.

When accepting the honour, Waters recognised his 96-year old mother. "If there is any humanity and empathy in my work, which I think there is, I would rather owe it to her," he said.

Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt said the British rock band has made "a monumental contribution...and captured the mood and spirit of a whole generation in their reflections and attitudes," reports the Associated Press.

The winners each received a standing ovation and a prize worth $157,700

AMY WINHOUSE

Amy Winehouse Film role for Amy's dad?

Amy Winehouse's dad Mitch is to make his acting debut in a new British film, according to reports.

The embattled pop star's father has been pictured alongside the singer in the media throughout her battle with drugs.

It has now been claimed that Mr Winehouse will play a taxi driver - mirroring his real life profession - on the big screen.

Currently in pre-production, the movie is expected to capture the tale of a one-hit wonder in the 1980s music business.

Film-makers are said to have been impressed by his "charm". An 'insider' explained: "Mitch has become almost as recognisable as Amy.

"He's always on hand when his daughter gets into scrapes. He comes across very well when he appears on TV to defend his daughter and the film's producers like his charm."

GIRLS ALOUD

Girls Aloud eye reality show

Pop group Girls Aloud are to recruit a new member as part of a new reality show, according to reports.

The hit girl band was formed in 2002 as part of TV talent show Popstars: The Rivals.

And now the Biology hitmakers look set to return to the reality show roots with their own series - dedicated to finding a new singer, who will join the group for a special one-off gig.

A source tells British newspaper the Sunday Mirror, "The girls have never forgotten that reality TV gave them their first break. Now they want to give someone else the chance. The winner will get to perform with the group on stage during a one-off concert but the girls hope they'll be able to discover a hidden talent who could join the band as a fully paid-up member. It makes sense for them to look for someone who can stand in if one of them can't make a show."

TING TINGS

Ting TingsThe Ting Tings packed out the NME/Radio 1 Stage as they made their Reading Festival debut this afternoon (August 23).

The Salford duo proved the biggest draw in the tent so far today, with scores of fans clamouring on the edge of the tent, attempting to get in.

Those who did get in were treated to an impressive gymnastics show, as the band brought on four acrobats to accompany them on stage at the end of the show.

Members of Mystery Jets, who played in the tent before the band, watched from the side of the stage, as did The Cribs' Ross Jarman and BBC Radio 1 DJ Steve Lamacq.

Near the start of the set 'Great DJ' earned the band a huge cheer as the crowd recognised the song's distinctive bleep pulse sounds.

The set was almost seemingly scuppered though as, during 'Shut Up And Let Me Go', the song made famous by appearing on a recent Apple iPod advert, the sound suddenly cut out, prompting loud boos from the audience.

However, a roadie scampered on stage and fixed the problem quickly, inducing huge cheers. Halfway through the song the duo paused and stood motionless as the crowd cheered more, before completing the song.

The band ended their set with recent Number One single 'That's Not My Name'. As the pair played the song four gymnasts arrived on stage and performed a series of hugely impressive tricks and flips using two scipping ropes, providing an impressive visual show to accompany the singalong.

The Ting Tings played:

'We Walk'
'Great DJ'
'Fruit Machine'
'Keep Your Head'
'We Started Nothing'

GARY GLITTER

Gary GlitterPaedophile singer Gary Glitter will have to sign the sex offenders register after a judge agreed to an application for a notification order made by police.

A solicitor for the former 70s glam rock star had argued that his conviction for abusing two young girls in Vietnam was "a travesty of justice" and the court should give him time to consider opposing it.

But district judge David Simpson, sitting at Uxbridge Magistrates' Court in west London, just hours after Glitter arrived back in Britain, said that the star had "demonstrated his desire to avoid the jurisdiction of this court" and ordered that he sign on as a sex offender within three days.

Outside court Glitter's solicitor David Corker said the 64-year-old, whose real name is Paul Gadd, was "pleased to be back in the UK".

Glitter did not attend the 10-minute hearing in person after he touched down at Heathrow Airport on a flight from Thailand. He had been released from jail in Vietnam on Tuesday after serving most of a three-year sentence for sex crimes involving two young girls aged 10 and 11.

Glitter met his solicitor after going through immigration checks at Terminal 3. He had then been expected to be taken by police to the court at Uxbridge but didn't turn up and left Mr Corker to represent him at the hearing.

Rajeev Shetty, a solicitor representing the Metropolitan Police, told the court that the force were applying for a notification order that would require Glitter to register as a sex offender under the Sexual Offences Act 2003.

He said that the conditions that needed to be satisfied were that Glitter had been convicted of a relevant offence in a country outside the UK and that the offence took place after September 1997.

He added that a sentence of three years in prison had the offence been committed in this country would have required him to sign the sex offenders register for life.

Mr Corker told the court that he had only been able to spend an hour with his client and asked for an interim order of six weeks to be served to give him time to prepare his client's answer to the police application.

BBC RADIO 1

BBC Radio 1BBC Radio 1 Revamps Evening Schedule

BBC Radio 1 has just announced a series of changes to the station’s evening schedule. The moves see brand new talent to Radio 1, Kissy Sell Out and Kutski promoted to their own regular shows and 1Xtra’s MistaJam joining the station, in addition to his 1Xtra show. The new schedule will come into effect in October.

The headlines in full are:

- Kissy Sell Out (“jump up rock n rave”) to host Thursday nights midnight-2am
- Kutski (“hard dance and hardcore”) to host Friday nights1am-3am. Judge Jules will move to the 11pm-1am slot on Friday nights.
- MistaJam to host the new 1Xtra Mixtape show Saturday nights 3am-5am, shining a light on a wide range of black music genres
- Heidi Van den Amstel (“techno”) and Jaymo & Andy George (“electro mash up”) join the rotating In New DJs We Trust line up (Thursday night 2am-4am).

In further news, Tim Westwood’s Saturday show will be extended by one hour (9pm-1am) and include reggae dancehall DJ Goldfinger.

Dave Pearce and Eddie Halliwell will leave the station in October. Dave has been with Radio 1 since 1995 and Eddie since 2006. Both Dave and Eddie will continue with their successful international club careers.

Kissy Sell Out said, “I've been teased most of my life for dressing differently and listening to strange records so when I was first signed by Radio 1 for a monthly slot I decided that I would work as hard as I could to transform those precious two hours into my own personal magical mystery tour of alternative dance music, a seamlessly mixed adventure to celebrate eclecticism, and where the music wasn't exclusively new or old, signed or unsigned but just good and daring to be different. Now I have been offered a more regular slot on the station I've listened to ever since I was a tot, I feel hugely privileged to be part of such a prestigious team and grateful to Radio 1 for having faith in me. It still seems crazy to me that a misfit musician like me who you would be more likely to catch moshing on the front row of an indie gig would get such a massive opportunity, but I promise to keep doing the best job I can and always going that extra yard to make each show better than the last one!”

Kutski said, “Being part of The Residency show and In New DJs We Trust has been amazing, and something I’d never had dreamed of, so to now have my own weekly show at such a prestigious time slot really is mind blowing!! That being said, I feel the music I will cover on the show warrants this new exposure, and is yet another example Radio 1's commitment to cutting edge music. It's an honour to be chosen as the person to represent the scene and I'm really excited about bringing the music to the people that live for it, as well as educating, entertaining and winning over people that are not so familiar with harder dance music!!!"

MistaJam said, “It’s an honour to be given the opportunity to work at the main radio station that I’ve grown up listening to! In today’s climate of the likes of Estelle, Dizzee Rascal and Wiley taking over the national charts I look forward to representing what I do on my daily 1Xtra show and bringing the heaviest and freshest in black music to Radio 1 on a Saturday night. Each week I will be in the mix for an hour with some of the biggest tunes from my 1Xtra show, we’ll feature an hour long guest mix from some of the black music scenes current hottest deejays which will aim to do for black music deejays what the Essential Mix has done and continues to do for dance deejays. Occasionally we’ll throw in a classic old school mixtape for good measure but overall it will be the biggest urban mix-CD not available to buy in any shops!”

MistaJam

Jaymo & Andy George said, "We're totally blown away about getting the show! We spend all our time making, looking for and listening to new music. Now we have the perfect way to share the best bits with the world via Radio 1! It doesn't get any better that this!!"

Heidi Van den Amstel said, “I’m extremely happy and excited to be joining the Radio 1 team. This is an amazing opportunity and I hope the listeners will enjoy my selection of music as much as I do. Being able to bridge the gap between great music and people who deserve to hear it makes me a very happy woman. Thank you so much”

Eddie Halliwell said, “With these new changes, I have decided to take this opportunity to move on from my weekly commitment at Radio 1, allowing me time to work on other projects that have been put on hold due to my current schedule. I'd like to thank everyone for my time here at the station and it has been a pleasure working with everyone. Fire It Up!”

Dave Pearce said, “It's been an incredible 13 years at Radio 1, of all the shows I've presented Dance Anthems is the one I'm most proud of creating and I am delighted that even in our recent late night slot we increased audience. It's time to move on but I have some exciting new radio projects to come. I would like to thank the teams who have worked with me over the years for making it such fun."

Ben Cooper, Head of Programmes Radio 1 said, “Radio 1 is here to champion the very best in new music and new DJ talent and I believe that these schedule changes mean we can continue to do this even more effectively. Kissy, Kutski and MistaJam are DJs who are completely passionate about the music they play and the audience they play to. I'm really happy that they will now all have their own regular shows. Our newest recruits Heidi Van den Amstel, Jaymo and Andy George are a fantastic addition to the In New DJs We Trust line-up. I'd also like to thank both Dave and Eddie for their commitment to Radio 1 and wish them all the very best for the future"

Notes

- Kutski and Kissy Sell Out are promoted from the In New DJs We Trust show. The show champions the most important new dance music genres, whilst also giving emerging talent their first chance to broadcast on national radio. Nerm and D-Code and Dave Spoon continue in this slot.
- MistaJam presents his show on 1Xtra Monday-Friday 7pm-10pm
- Jaymo & Andy George were spotted by Radio 1 when they took part in the Essential Mix Introducing tour

SIDEWINDER

AT LAST THE MIGHTY SIDEWINDER RETURNS TO THE UK!!! THE LONGEST BIGGEST RUNNING UK URBAN MUSIC EVENT IS BACK AND BIGGER THAN EVER!!!

Over the past year the sidewinder team have been focusing on setting up several record labels across the UK, as well as constantly recording new material we have been working with some of the best talents in the UK to secure a common direction.

Now we have filtered out the artists that are really in this for the music we feel it is time to proceed forward and show the UK what the underground really has to offer, This year sidewinder will be celebrating its 10th year in the business, Throughout these 10 years Sidewinder has been running the UK scene and has branched out in many directions and broke into many pieces, We now feel its a very healthy time for UK music, It seems all the separate sounds are coming back together , Artists are working together and the Industry is looking very positive. Sidewinder started with UK garage which then within itself created Grime, at the same time Hip Hop, 4x4 and speed garage (niche) were all becoming massive scenes within themselves.

So now is the time to celebrate all the genres and subgenres of UK Garage and UK urban music. AGREE?????

SIDEWINDER have 4 dances confirmed for the end of this year and 2 more unconfirmed, SEE BELOW FOR DETAILS

Event 4
December, Sidewinder @ Luton. THIS WILL BE THE DANCE ALL YOU SERIOUS GRIME FORUM PEOPLE WILL BE WAITING FOR.

We are currently in talks with several promoters in London to do a massive event in the UK capital so WATCH THIS SPACE.

UK UNDERGROUND MUSIC EVENTS ARE DYING AND NEED YOUR SUPPORT, THESE NIGHTS ARE ALL ABOUT GOOD VIBES AND GETTING THE UK RAVING, WE ARE INCREASING SECURITY AND NO THUGGED OUT METALITTIES WILL BE TOLORATED, COME WITH THE WRONG ATTITUDE AND YOU WILL NOT EVEN GET IN THE VENUE, THIS EVENT IS FOR PEOPLE WHO ENJOY MUSIC AND WANT TO SKANK OUT WITH LIKE MINDED PEOPLE.

I’m fully aware putting this on a Grime forum is gonna cause bare negative talks, Sidewinder was doing UK Garage long before Grime came along so we have to keep representing all areas of the industry, this includes Bassline AND UK Hip Hop! So all you people who are negative about anything that’s not grime get ya rotten tomatoes ready to throw!!!

SIDEWINDER STILL HAS A MASSIVE LOVE FOR GRIME BUT WHEN UK ARTISTS CHARGE SO MUCH FOR THEIR PERFORMANCES AND THE GRIME PEOPLE DONT RAM OUT THE CLUBS IT MAKES IT IMPOSSIBLE TO HOST SUCCESFULL EVENTS, IE COVER COSTS OF THE CLUB, PUT OUT A SICK LINE UP ANDCOVER COSTS FOR SECURITY.
SIDEWINDER STILL SUPPORTS GRIME TO THE FULLEST...

KANO

Kano - 140 Grime St Kano is set to release his new album in September. This is Grime's unsung hero, with lyrical punches lines, kicks, and acrobatics that would have Jackie Chan, Jet Li, and Jean Claude Van Damme check themselves into early retirement [or should I just say, retirement.] Anyway we're patiently waiting for this piece of Grime history. Kano was dropped from his label 679 [Sony BMG] but proved his talent was no fluke by staying relevant with the radio airwaves playing his mixtape material constantly.

ADULTHOOD

AdulthoodPowerful, disturbing and moving in equal measure, 2005's acclaimed "Kidulthood" took us deep into London's unseen underbelly, delivering a raw, hard-hitting reflection of what life is like for 21st century teenagers, where sex is currency, drugs are easy to come by and violence is a way of life. Six years after Sam Peel is released from jail for killing Trife, he soon realises that life is no easier on the outside than it was on the inside and he's forced to confront the people he hurt the most. Some have moved on, others are stuck with the repercussions of his actions that night, but one thing's for certain - everyone has been forced to grow up. Through his journey Sam struggles to deal with his sorrow and guilt and something else he didn't expect - those seeking revenge. As he's pursued by a new generation of bad boys, Sam sets about trying to get the message across to his pursuers that they should stop the violence, much like Trife tried to tell him all those years ago. Can Sam stop the cycle of violence and make something positive from the destruction he caused or will his journey into Adulthood end here? A positive tale disguised in the bleakness of its environment, Adulthood pushes home the moral lesson that crime doesn't pay.

Adulthood

"From Kidulthood to Adulthood" by Bashy is the official song to the movie. You'll catch the likes of Plan B Maniac Nole Clarke and more... The video was produced by Maniac.

...And if you ain't seen this film yet... you're late!

ESTELLE

EstelleThis is our shinning light Esteller Ents [Estelle]. She has succumb to become a true star and we are backing her all the way. Apparently her album "Shine" is about her past relationship with an American rapper whom resides in the UK evidently the apt titled "American Boy" debut single which went to number one was supposedly a vocal reinactment of her first meeting with the estranged gentleman. Our sources say the George Micheal cover, "No Substitute Love" which shows a cheating boyfriend is also about the rapper. Hang in there girl, don't worry hun, there's plenty more fish in the sea...

MAD MINI
Bally FaceBally Face - Minature This is Mad Mini a.k.a Minature a.k.a Ballyface. D-Raw has been promoting this artist's product all over the country and it is safe to say that we are having a positive response [despite the front cover]. This artist is the real deal, shower, sho sho and all that shit. Lived a life of crime on the mean streets of South East London. Hailling from Woolwich, South East London this artist lets us know the exact character of a one time bank robber/drug dealer. He lets the listener in to intimate thoughts on loosing his brother whilst being in prison and contemplating becoming a Muslim. If ever there has been an artist in the UK whom could par the American gangster rappers, it's this one. Grab this wherever you see it... D-Raw will be with you shortly [hold tight].

These guys went to Malia and let the locals understand how we get down in the UK Ghetto is one of the most spoke about artists within this scene. One time side liner for Kano whom is also seen as the other part of a duet between the two. Ghetto is also a part of the movement, which is a group that consists of Ghetto, Scorcher, and Wretch 32. Skepta is a part of Boy Better Know, which consists of JME, Frisco, Wiley, and many other artists. Tynchy Stryder is a part of Ruff Squad. Radio One DJ Tim Westwood went to Malia with these guys, check this out.
